Tentative Research Proposal

1. I am interested in researching the Lord's Resistance Army and the child soldiers in Uganda. I'm interested in this situation because I heard about the organization Invisible Children, which works to stop these abductions, from a friend and I want to know more. I want to know the background information of what is happening and what is being done/has been done to stop it. I want to focus especially on children because I'm shocked at the extent that their rights are being violated.

3. I'm not sure what exact aspect of this conflict I'm going to research, but I know I'm going to research something related to the child soldiers. What would be some good books to use (especially some that contain primary sources)? What other organizations, besides UNICEF and Invisible Children, are working to resolve this conflict?

  1. Here are a few books sources that I thought sounded helpful:

In doing some quick research I found a charity called the Name Campaign. http://www.namecampaign.org/
I don't know if any of these links will be of help to you. I think that this is a fascinating yet tragic topic, and you could explore many different aspects of it.

  2. I think you really have a great start. I do not know anything about this topic but I definitely want to know more already. I like that you really know what you wanna do and again you could do many different aspects of the topic. I definitely think it will be important giving us background info in your presentation.

  3. I think it would be interested to look into the roots of this topic. SInce we are studying how genocide happens I think it would be interesting if you look at how these child soldiers come to be....who is to blame for their ample supply in automatic weapons, how is the global world to blame, in what ways are these kids being brainwashed. I think this would be much more interesting than just hearing about the atrocities they commit as we have heard many times before.
